Each European country has its own domestic soccer league. The league is made up of many “club” teams representing different cities and regions of that country. Once a year, the best club teams compete in the Champions League.
Winning the Champions League is the most prestigious award in club soccer. The team that wins is considered to be the best team in Europe and arguably in the world since the highest caliber teams are all in Europe.
Why do people care about the games this weekend?
Tik tok. There's not much time left. And a lot is at stake. Only two weeks left for teams to make playoffs. Many teams' fates will be determined by their performances in these last two weeks. Experts have their predictions, but fans love these games because, well, the predictions are crap. We live for those moments when the underdogs upset the odds.
Which teams are safe?
Four teams have clinched playoffs already: New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks.
Which is the most anticipated game?
Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburg Steelers - Christmas Day at 4:30PM EST
People are excited to watch this game for the potential of an upset. Experts pick the Steelers to win. But, most of the past face-offs between these two teams came down to a touchdown or less. Or, the teams kept the tease going into overtime. I smell an underdog story.
Which game will the haters watch?
Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs - Christmas Day at 8:30PM EST
In case you don't remember, the Broncos won the Super Bowl last season. Now, they may not make the playoffs. People love to watch teams fall from grace as much as they love to watch them rise from the ashes. This game will be the Broncos' last chance. Unfortunately, experts pick the Chiefs to win.
What about the Bears?
Chicago Bears vs. Washington Redskins - Christmas Eve at 1:00PM EST
The Bears are out of the running for the playoffs, but the Redskins still have a chance! Sadly, the Bears should be easy to beat, given they've only won two games all season.
What about the Niners?
San Francisco Niners vs. Los Angeles Rams - Christmas Eve at 4:30PM EST
Neither team is going to the playoffs. The Niners have only won one game this entire season, and it was against the Rams. Since then, the Niners have gotten worse and worse. Odds are against them in this upcoming game.
Left: Ezekiel Elliott. Right: Dak Prescott.
A third of all Americans know who Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are, which is impressive considering they've only been in the NFL for four months. These two rookies led the Dallas Cowboys to win 12 games out of the 14 played so far this season and helped the team to clinch the first spot in the playoffs. They've developed great chemistry on the field and have become brothers off the field, but their journeys to success couldn't be more different.
Ezekiel was the super star recruit who was the 4th pick during the 2016 NFL Draft. The Cowboys immediately named him the starting running back, ahead of players with more experience. In contrast, Dak was the 135th pick during the draft and joined the Cowboys as the backup to the backup quarterback. Because all the other quarterbacks got injured, Dak got to play. His outstanding performance surprised everyone! In November, he was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month. Despite all this, people are still doubting if he's ready for the playoffs. To them, Dak said, "Go ahead, doubt me. I'll just work harder."
